Every year when January rolls around you vow to eat better, lose weight and actually go to the gym once in a while. Others vow to save money, hang out with friends more and spent quality time with the family. That’s nice, but what about the goals you should set for your home?
In the spirit of a new year and new beginnings, we think you should come up with a few resolutions that will make your home a better place. For example, you could resolve to have those old locks swapped out with new ones, Bostons Locksmith, your emergency locksmith in Boston, will be more than happy to make that happen. New locks leave your home more secure and give you peace of mind.
Here are a few more resolutions you can work to achieve this year.
Safety Audit
You probably already know that you should be checking your smoke detectors at least twice a year. But there are other safety concerns that should be looked at as well. For example, January is a good time of the year to check all of the power cords for damage. A frayed or otherwise damaged power cord poses a fire threat, so get it fixed or replaced.
Check Your Insurance
Just because your homeowners’ insurance satisfied the lender, it does not mean it’s right for you. Resolve to sit down and actually read through your insurance to see what it all means. In addition to being covered for fires and floods, you will want to ensure that your policy covers the things that are important to you, like your album collection.
Pack a Disaster Kit
Your home may very well be your castle, but this does not mean it’s not indestructible. A disaster kit is a fireproof safe that holds all of your important papers and other documents.
Your disaster kit should also include photos of all of your expensive items around your home. These photos should include conditions, original prices and other relevant information. This way, in the event of an emergency, like if your home does have a fire, your important stuff is safe and will speed up the recovery.
Make a Cleaning Plan
We would all love to be that person who has a house that is spotless all of the time. Part of the reason we aren’t that person is due to a lack of planning. If you want a clean house, you need to have a realistic cleaning plan in place. Take the time to sit down on plan out your cleaning schedule. You could be the type who cleans everything on the weekends or goes through a room for every day of the week.
Just Get It Fixed
We are guessing there are several repairs that need to happen in and around your home. Sure, these are minor problems that aren’t terribly important, like the sprinkler head that waters the driveway, but you should still get them fixed anyway.
Start the new year our right by calling Bostons Locksmith and having your old locks replaced.
